Just when it was time for the Spooky Fall Season, Toyota soft-launched its latest costume. Drumrolls! A younger FJ Land Cruiser that is already stealing the spotlight. Even this early, the baby Land Cruiser is a hot topic and the center of everyone’s discussion. It's because a small-sized Land Cruiser is something no one imagined before. From the exterior, it is similar to the FJ Cruiser, which is a large off-road SUV in Australia. From the interior, it's inspired by the Suzuki Jimny and Renault Duster. Toyota just premiered the FJ Cruiser 2026 yesterday at the Japan Mobility Show that took place in Tokyo. Let us tell you more about the vehicle specs and release.
The new baby Land Cruiser has not officially launched, but there are whispers everywhere. We’ve found out great things about its engine. It has the same engine that powers many Toyota SUVs. It's a 2.7L 2TR- Petrol Four engine that produces 120KW Power and an amazing 249Nm Torque. Since it is a compact SUV, or you could say mini SUV, it has five doors and a capacity to seat five people.
Now there's one interesting feature about the wheels. Toyota has designed the baby Land Cruiser wheels similar to the Land Cruiser 70 series. Which means that the compact Baby Land Cruisers’ tires have strong rims and a short wheelbase. The short wheelbase, combined with the steering, gives a tight turning circle of 5.5m. Since it is a mini version of the Land Cruiser, it has to have the traction of a Land Cruiser but also be easy to park in small spaces. For this reason, it comes with part-time Four Wheel Drive.

Think of this Baby Land Cruiser as a vehicle with a retro vibe. Our very own FJ has a boxy design. “Geometrical” is what will probably come to your mind when you first see the 2026 baby Land Cruiser. It is called “baby Land Cruiser” for a reason, as its body is 4565 mm long overall. It is 1855mm wide and 1960mm high. If we had to compare it to an SUV, we’d say it lies somewhere in between a Corolla Cross and an RAV4. However, it looks more retro thanks to its pushed-out wheels. These pushed-out wheels help make the vehicle more stable off-road, something we will discuss soon.

The 2026 Toyota Baby Land Cruiser interior looks retro and is packed with the latest technological features. It has Qi Wireless charging and USB-C ports. The seats are upright, but you can easily fold the rear ones to create more room for luggage. Some of the features in the 2026 Toyota Baby Land Cruiser include the following:
Flat Horizontal Dashboard
Steering Wheel Controls
LED Infotainment Display
Low Beltline
Now, here's something useful for the Toyota Baby Land Cruiser. You can easily remove the front and rear bumpers thanks to their segmented corners. This is helpful when you need to repair the bumper for dents and scratches. These segmented bumpers make it convenient to maintain your car.
Now, the new 2026 Baby Land Cruiser’s headlamps largely contribute to its overall retro vibe. They are round headlamps that give off that classy vibe. You could say that they are similar to what you’d find in a vehicle from the old FJ/70 series. It also has those Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) that help with vision during extreme weather conditions like thunderstorms and fog.
While Toyota has yet to unveil the color paint palette, we have an idea that it's gonna come out in earthy tones. The color list will come out in mid-2026.
Although compact in size, the new 2026 Toyota Baby Land Cruiser is a king of Off-road travel—and for all the right reasons. It has an IMV ladder frame, which you’d find in a Hilux. Think of this frame as the car’s spine, which helps it withstand all kinds of rough terrain. Now, whenever your car hits rough materials, this ladder frame won’t let the cabin be damaged or bent. This is what makes the baby Land Cruiser fit for rocky roads full of foulders.
Now, the best thing about this off-road king is its tight turns. All thanks to its short wheelbase, the car can easily rotate in a smaller circle. Now you don’t have to worry about driving on a pathway with sharper turns. Toyota also compares the wheel articulation to the Land Cruiser 70 series, which means that the FJ Cruiser has better traction. Moreover, the 2026 Baby Land Cruiser’s breakover angle protects the car’s bottom from scratches.
Now the new 2026 Baby Land Cruiser has part-time 4WD, keeping a good balance between fuel efficiency and good off-road capability. Now think of it this way. Toyota has designed this SUV FJ in a way that it runs on 2H light steering most of the time, which improves fuel efficiency. However, it shifts to all-wheel drive when the car needs traction during slippery road conditions. The drivetrain is designed to alternate between 2H and AWD as needed.
Toyota Baby Land Cruiser FJ is all set to launch in the mid 2026 in Japan. Thailand has confirmed its production in 2026. However, Australia is yet to announce its production. While the North American Toyota offers vehicles listed on the TNGA platform, there is no news about the 2026 Toyota FJ Cruiser 2026 as of now. We are uncertain about the future of Americans. However, it is true that this model has taken all car enthusiasts by storm. Buyers still have the option of buying alternatives that include the Toyota 4Runner and Tacoma Pickup. But we all know that the grass is always greener on the other side. You crave what is unreachable.
There are many speculations on the new 2026 Toyota Baby Land Cruiser price. Most of the sources project it to lie in the $35,000-$45,000 range. This showstopper comes in the following three trims:
LE- $35,000: You should buy if affordability is a dealbreaker for you. It includes the 4WD and ladder frame.
XLE- $40,000: It has safety features and better wheels, but does not have additional luxury features.
Limited- $45,000: This trim comes with all of the convenience features, which include premium seating, audio, and driver assists.
Before deciding to buy the new showstopper, you must know whether it aligns with your lifestyle. Well, it's a multi-purpose vehicle that has a part-time all-wheel drive support. So if you are an adventurous person who loves traveling up the mountains on rocky terrain, then this one's for you. It is very versatile and its short wheel base and traction allow it to withstand bad roads and floods. Whether you are on a family picnic or going to trek up the mountains, this queen of off-road vehicles won’t disappoint you.
